The MUNDOLOGIA Festival in Freiburg is an annually repeating reportage festival that ends in a three-day event on a weekend in the Freiburg Concert Hall at the beginning of February . Other topics besides reports are photography and travel. There are also workshops and seminars on the above topics. Prizes for good work are also awarded every year, with a focus on youth development.

history

The first festival took place on January 24th and 25th, 2004 in the Bürgerhaus Seepark in Freiburg and had 3000 visitors. The festival was founded by Tobias Hauser in 2003, who then organized it from 2005 together with David Hettich, who was also there in 2004 in an advisory capacity. The name Mundologia comes from Spanish and means knowledge of the world . National Geographic has been Mundologia's media partner since 2013 .

The idea of the festival is to offer the participants lectures, reports and films by renowned photographers, journalists and well-known adventurers on natural topics. From 2009 the festival will take place in the Freiburg Concert Hall. The main event has regularly seen more than 20,000 visitors since 2010, making it the largest reportage festival in Europe. In 2015 there was a new visitor record with almost 35,000 visitors to the lectures. In addition to the lectures, there is also a trade fair for photography, outdoor and travel on the weekend. The photo exhibitions are always important. For example, Markus Lanz showed his pictures at the 2014 Mundologia in the exhibition “Greenland. My travels to the end of the world ”.

There are now so many lectures that they no longer fit into the weekend. The lecture series usually start in late autumn at various locations in Freiburg, Denzlingen , Au im Hexental , Müllheim , Schluchsee , Rastatt , Lörrach and Waldshut-Tiengen .

At the 13th festival the days before, with the exception of approx. 300 tickets, were already sold out in advance, but the organizer does not want to move to the exhibition grounds or extend the festival in order not to lose the character of the festival. Quote from him “For us it is about increasing quality.” There were a total of 22.00 visitors.

The 14th Mundologia Festival took place from February 3rd to 5th, 2017 with the motto "Longing for Nature" and had around 23,000 visitors. the opening lecture is the report “Living Planet” by TRV moderator Dirk Steffens .

The 15th Mundologia Festival ended from February 2nd to 4th, 2018 under the motto “People's Planet” and had over 22,000 visitors. On the weekend there were 15 slide shows, among the speakers were Markus Lanz with the lecture “Greenland - My Journey to the End of the World” and Willi Weitzel with “Willis new wild ways”. As always, the “Photography, Outdoor and Travel Fair” ran at the same time. There were also a number of seminars and workshops.

The 16th Mundologia Festival took place from February 8th to 10th, 2019.

The 17th Mundologia Festival will take place from February 7th to 9th, 2020
