Maarten Ornstein (* 1967 in Amstelveen ) is a Dutch jazz saxophonist and clarinetist.

Ornstein also took bass clarinet lessons from Harry Sparnay while studying jazz in The Hague . He later studied bansuri and Indian music with Pandit Hari Prasad Chaurassia in Rotterdam. In the 1990s he founded the group WARP , an ensemble of five wind players and a singer, with whom he released an album in 1999.

In the following years he received composition commissions a. a. for the North Sea Jazz Festival , the theater group Orkather , the choreographer Anouk van Dijk , the Calefax Reed Ensemble and the New Music Choir in Amsterdam. As an instrumentalist, he has worked with Tony Overwater , Pat Metheny and David Liebman , the Schönberg Ensemble , the Concertgebouw Jazz Orchestra and others.

In 2004 Ornstein founded the DASH group ! with the singers Jeannine Valeriano , Monique de Adelhart Toorop , Marike Snijders and Kiki Manders , the drummers Joshua Simson and Erik Hoeke and the bassist Tessa Cook . So far, two albums have been released with the group.
