Mackinaw City is a village in the US state of Michigan . The town, which has around 800 residents, is located immediately south of Mackinac Street and thus the connection between Lakes Michigan and Huron at the northernmost point of the Lower Peninsula .
Economically, the place lives heavily from summer tourism, and ferries to Mackinac Island also depart from here . In the marina is the discarded icebreaker Mackinaw , which has been converted into the Icebreaker Mackinaw Maritime Museum . A visit to Fort Michilimackinac from 1715 (or its reconstruction) is also popular.
