Maddie & Tae is an American band from Nashville , Tennessee . The duo is attributed to country music and is under contract with Republic Records and Dot Records . The name refers to the two singers.
history
Madison and Taylor met at the age of 15 through a vocal coach who both taught. They met with representatives from Big Machine Records and initially performed under the name "Sweet Aliana". After finishing school, the two moved to Nashville and started their music careers. In June 2014 they signed with Republic Records and Dot Records, both daughters of Big Machine.
Her first single, Girl in a Country Song , peaked at number one on the country airplay chart. They wrote this song with Aaron Scherz, who was a producer alongside Dann Huff . The song criticizes the bro-country trend of 2013 and 2014. Typical of this trend are men as the main actors with their big trucks, while female actors are only accessories. Maddie & Tae is the second female duo after The Wreckers to reach number one on the country charts with their debut single.
Her second single, Fly , which was released in January 2015, premiered on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
Her first album, Start Here , was released on August 28, 2015. In October 2015, the two had a guest appearance on the Disney series Life and Riley , where they sang their song No Place Like You .
After Dot Records closed in 2017, Maddie & Tae signed a recording deal with Mercury Nashville, another subsidiary of Universal Music . In 2018 they released the single Friends Don't .
