High altar

The chapel is one of the few pre-Reformation transverse churches . It was built in 1447 according to plans by Andrea Cavalcanti , an adopted son of Filippo Brunelleschi . The structure consists of a transverse square, that of a flat hip roof and a double lancet windows - Glockenjoch is crowned. The Glockenjoch is connected to the secular building adjacent to the church. The facade of the square is divided into two floors and divided into three axes by four Corinthian pilasters . In the central axis, which contains the portal , the entablature is interrupted in favor of a round arch, so that the entire facade appears as a variation of the Serliana motif. The upper floor has a round arched window in each of the outer axes and is closed off by a mighty entablature with an egg bar and tooth cut frieze . The three-axis structure is only indicated on the upper floor by two volute brackets below the entablature. The side facades take up the design of the main facade in a narrower arrangement.

inner space

In 1609 the interior was provided with a splendid ceiling in the style of the early Baroque , the central field of which contains a picture of the Madonna. The high altar is on the shorter axis of the interior opposite the entrance. It is flanked by Corinthian pilasters and covered by a round arch so that the facade design is reflected in the interior structure. The baroque altarpiece by Alessandro Tiarini is flanked by two Corinthian columns with a cranked segmented gable . In the baroque altarpiece is a 14th century miraculous image , a Madonna and Child , which was originally in the Cathedral of Pescia . A cartouche above the altar contains the inscription FONS GRATIARUM - “Source of grace”.

On both sides of the altar a figure of a saint is placed in small wall niches. In the left half of the room there is a small organ gallery .
