Magda Bittner-Simmet
Magda Bittner-Simmet (born October 16, 1916 in Erding , † March 22, 2008 in Starnberg ) was a Munich painter of the post-war period. Mainly portraits, but also city and landscape pictures, still lifes and nudes are the subjects of her colorful oil paintings, watercolors, drawings and graphics.
Life
As a daughter from a middle-class family in Erding , she trained in Munich , initially as a teacher of calligraphy and shorthand. Then the fashion-loving young woman briefly attended the master school for fashion until she - against the will of her father - followed her vocation as a painter. In 1938 she began studying at the Academy of Applied Arts in Munich with Karl-Heinz Dallinger , Else Brauneis and Fritz Helmuth Ehmcke, among others . To finance her studies, she worked as a specialist teacher for shorthand and poster writing as well as a drawing and craft teacher. In 1944 she completed her studies with a diploma. In 1947 she married the doctor Max Bittner, who died of drug poisoning that same year.
The 31-year-old widow moved into her first studio in Munich / Schwabing as a freelance artist. Numerous portraits secured her livelihood. Many public figures, including those from business, politics and culture, sat their models. In 1972 the painter built a house with the Munich architect Herbert Lauterbach at Schwedenstrasse 54 on the Schwabinger Bach , where she lived and worked until her death at the age of 92. Today there is the Magda Bittner-Simmet Foundation with a studio museum.
plant
After training at the Academy for Applied Arts during the Third Reich and the prevailing art ideology, Magda Bittner-Simmet only developed her own style of painting in the post-war years, which is stylistically close to the works of expressive realism . She further developed her portrait style in 1951 as a guest student with Hans Gött at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. Her works can be found in numerous public and private collections.
