Magdalena Adamowicz (born April 10, 1973 in Słupsk ; born Abramska ) is a Polish university professor and politician . She has been a non-party member of the European Parliament ( Group of the European People's Party ) since July 2, 2019 .

As a widow of the assassinated in January 2019 Gdansk Mayor Pawel Adamowicz she campaigns against the political divisions in Polish society.

Life

Magdalena Abramska grew up in Słupsk ( German Stolp ). She attended the Lyceum there and then studied law at the Universities of Danzig , Bonn and Cambridge . After completing her doctorate in 2003, she specialized in maritime law .

After her husband's murder, Magdalena Adamowicz ran as a non-party candidate in the 2019 European elections . Your choice was supported by the Citizens' Platform (Platforma Obywatelska, PO). Adamowicz is a member of the European Parliament 's delegation for relations with South Africa and sits on the delegations and transport and tourism committees.

family

Adamowicz was married to Paweł Adamowicz (1965–2019), a lawyer who had served as mayor of Gdańsk since 1998, since 1999. The marriage resulted in two daughters (* 2003 and 2010).

Her sister Beata is married to Maciej Glamowski, who was elected mayor of Grudziądz (Graudenz) in 2018 .
