Magdalena of Bavaria

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Magdalena von Bayern (also: Magdalene von Bayern ; * 1388 ; † 1410 ) was the second surviving daughter of Duke Friedrichs von Bayern-Landshut and his wife Maddalena Visconti . In 1404 she married Count Johann Meinhard VII of Gorizia .

Magdalena was born in 1388. Together with her mother Maddalena, her older brother Heinrich XVI. and her older sister Elisabeth , in 1400, allowed the city of Reichenhall to levy a special tax to restore the salt mines that had been destroyed by flooding . On December 18, 1403, Duke Heinrich in Hall agreed that she should marry Count Johann Meinhard VII of Gorizia. In 1404 she became Johann Meinhard's first wife; the dowry was 25,000 guilders and was paid out in several installments. Henry, who had already applied the dowry for his sister Elisabeth, pledged this castle and care Griesbach and the toll to Burghausen at Arnold Fraunberger .

Magdalena died in 1410 and was buried like her mother in the Raitenhaslach monastery . The marriage had remained childless. After Johann Meinhard's death in 1430, Duke Heinrich XVI requested from his brother, Count Heinrich VI. von Gorizia returned the dowry paid for his sister; he obviously didn't want Johann Meinhard's second wife, Agnes von Pettau, to benefit from the money. Emperor Sigismund , who was initially involved in the lawsuit, commissioned Bishop Leonhard von Passau , who was allied with Heinrich von Bayern-Landshut, to clarify the case. Leonhard finally decided against Duke Heinrich XVI in April 1435; Witnesses from Gorizia had credibly assured him that the dowry rightly remained with the Gorizia.
