The church

The Evangelical Magdalenenkirche is located in the municipality of Lehnstedt in the Weimarer Land district in Thuringia .

location

The building is located on a higher level north of the Ilm and the Weimar-Jena railway line in the arable farming area around Weimar on the eastern edge of the village.

history

The oldest parts of the church date from the 12th century. Several members of the Bach family shaped the church music life of the place.

Building

The choir tower church has the usual three-position - tower part with choir and nave .

On the upper floor of the Romanesque tower there are double windows with central columns, which exist twice next to each other to the east and west. Narrow pointed arch windows create the flush choir. The wide nave has large baroque arched windows. The double hood rises above the central building.

The church is entered through a northern wooden porch, the choir triumphal arch has a brick-red frame. Corresponding light falls through the red window glass in the choir.

Furnishing

In the room there is a stone altar and a baptismal font as well as the lectern. August Witzmann built the organ in 1840. A flat ceiling in the choir has strong colors. The blue tinted barrel and gallery surrounds the nave on four sides. The color scheme was carried out after a fire between 1798 and 1802. The movement from 1855 was refurbished in 1987 and received new dials in 2005. The church was secured with lightning protection in 1994.

The bell from 1456 was restored in 2000. In 2005 the tower was newly crowned.
