Magic Christian

Magic Christian , (* 17th July 1945 as a Christian Stelzel in Mauthausen ) is an Austrian magician , designer , actor , presenter and author .

Career

After completing school in the Stubenbastei and in the Academic Gymnasium in Vienna , he studied industrial design at the University of Applied Arts Vienna and completed his studies with a Magister Artium .

Inspired by his father's magic book, he started learning and performing card tricks at the age of 13 . Soon he was encouraged by magicians like Valentino Graziadei or Peter Heinz Kersten, who recognized his talent. He won first prizes in a magic competition in 1965. After completing his studies, he initially concentrated on his professional career as a designer, while he only operated the art of magic as an amateur . However, his growing popularity as a magician prompted him to embark on a career as an artist.

In 1968 Magic Christian was the first continental European to win 1st place in the magic competition in Weymouth . After the second place in 1970 he was three times in a row in 1973, 1976 and 1979 FISM - world champion in the division manipulation , 1979 also in the division inventions. In 2015 he was awarded the honorary prize for "Magic History and Research" at the FISM World Congress. With six prizes at the world championships, the most awarded magician is the FISM.

At first he appeared on the stage with his real name, later he called himself Christian from Vienna . The artist name Magic Christian comes from the graphic resolution of his own playing cards. The reverse has been printed in opposite directions since 1968: The Magic of Christian , in which the article and the preposition are printed much smaller.

Magic Christian is also an expert in psi phenomena . He revealed that the Filipino faith healers popular in the 1970s only used tricks. Along with James Randi , he is one of Uri Geller's critics .

The inventor of the tricks Chain Magic and Color Changing Lighter does not only appear as a magician. He also appeared in plays as an actor. Among other things, he often played in the Nestroy Games at Liechtenstei Castle1. In 1998 he appeared as a frog in the operetta Die Fledermaus . In 2002 he appeared in the play The barometer makers on the magic island of Ferdinand Raimund with. He is also known for his Political Magic Cabarets .

In 1989 Magic Christian took over the management of the Magical Club Vienna and in 1989 founded Austria's First Magical Youth Club to find and promote magical youngsters.

Since 1992 he has been concerned with the life and work of the Viennese card artist Johann Nepomuk Hofzinser and other Austrian magicians such as Compars Herrmann, Ottokar Fischer and Valentino Graziadei.
