Maha Sarakham (also Mahasarakam , in Thai มหาสารคาม ) is a city ( เทศบาล เมือง มหาสารคาม ) in the Thai province of Maha Sarakham . It is the capital of the district ( Amphoe ) Mueang Maha Sarakham and the province of Maha Sarakham.

Economy and Importance
Agriculture, primarily rice cultivation and sugar cane cultivation as well as the breeding of cattle, water buffalo and pigs, is the main occupation in this province. There is also sericulture and silk weaving .

The "Maha Sarakham Bun Boek Fa Festival and Red Cross Fair" is a festival and fair, at which each district appears with a pageant and exhibits and sells products from the different districts. The festival is held in honor of the mother of rice Mae Phosop or Goddess of Rice ( แม่ โพสพ ).
