Mahikeng ( English mahikeng Local Municipality ) is a local church in the South African district Ngaka Modiri Molema province Northwest . The municipality is located in Mmabatho , Mahikeng District . Nature reserves

  • To the east of the city limits of Mahikeng, the Mafikeng Game Reserve extends over an area of ​​4600-4800 hectares . This wildlife park is one of the tourist attractions with its Kalahari and Acacia trees and diverse wildlife, including rhinos, giraffes and zebras.
  • In the north of the municipality, 18 km away from the neighboring municipality of Ramotshere Moiloa , the Botsalano Game Reserve extends over an area of ​​5800 hectares. More than 2000 animals and over 200 bird species live in this game reserve.
  • The Molemane Eye Nature Reserve extends east of Mahikeng, 11 km from Ottoshoop . This nature reserve, located directly on the border to the neighboring municipality of Ditsobotla , has an area of ​​5000 ha.
  • The Disaneng Dam was built on the Molopo River in 1980 . The dam with a height of 17 meters and a length of 780 meters is now in the municipality of Ratlou , while most of the reservoir is in the west of the municipality of Mahikeng. The maximum storage capacity is 17.4 million cubic meters (m³). The closest city is Mmabatho . The dam was initially built for irrigation purposes; but it has also become a place to relax, especially for fishing. The dam has also become a gathering point for migratory birds.
