Maik Krahl

Maik Krahl (born February 3, 1991 in Bautzen ) is a German jazz musician ( trumpet , composition ).

Krahl, who grew up in Dobranitz , started playing the trumpet at the age of eight. He soon became interested in jazz and played in relevant big bands and ensembles. As a teenager he took part in workshops by Claudio Roditi , Klaus Ignatzek , Jean-Louis Rassinfosse and Jiggs Whigham . After studying jazz at the Carl Maria von Weber University of Music in Dresden with Till Brönner and Malte Burba , which he started in 2009 , he completed the master’s course in Jazz Improvising Artist at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen with Ryan Carniaux . During his studies he belonged to the youth jazz orchestra of Saxony, the Lajjazzo Brandenburg and, from 2012, the federal jazz orchestra , with which he also toured internationally.

His first album under his own name Decidophobia (with Constantin Krahmer , Oliver Lutz and Hendrik Smock as well as Bruno Müller ) was released in 2018 on Double Moon Records . In addition to his own quartet, Krahl regularly plays with the Unit 5 quintet , with whom he won the jazz @ undesigned jazz scholarship in 2018. As a member of the Subway Jazz Orchestra , he has contributed to their albums Primal Scream (2015), State of Mind (2016) and Richbeck Suite (2018).

Furthermore, Krahl has been a lecturer at the Open Jazz House School in Cologne since 2014 .
