Maik Mertens

Maik Mertens (born April 10, 1977 in Gütersloh ) is a former German basketball player . The 2.12 meter tall indoor player played 18 Bundesliga matches for the Oldenburg TB and was a junior national player.

career

Mertens comes from the youth of Gütersloh TV and played for the Paderborn Baskets in the 2nd basketball league before he played for the San José State University team from December 1997 until the end of the 1998/99 season . He was used in 38 games of the NCAA and scored an average of 1.8 points per game. From 1999 to 2001 Mertens then played for the University of Sioux Falls in the NAIA .

In August 2001 he was signed by Bundesliga club Oldenburger TB , but did not get beyond the role of supplementary player and was used in 18 Bundesliga games for an average of less than three minutes. In the 2002/03 season Mertens was under contract with the second division USC Freiburg , where he received significantly longer playing time. In 2003 Mertens left the Breisgau and went to the regional league team TSVE Bielefeld , with whom he became champion of the west season in 2007 and was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga ProB and also played there for the club. After 2008 Mertens was again active for his hometown club Gütersloher TV in the major league.

National team

Mertens played in the U22 age range in the German junior national team alongside Dirk Nowitzki .
