Maizena
The short cornflour called German Maizena GmbH , after 1918 German Maizena Werke AG , was a company that in the production of starchy foods from grains such as corn starch , Mondamin and Weizenin specialized.
history
It was founded in Hamburg in 1916 as a subsidiary of the US company Corn Products Refining Corporation (CPC) , which had already opened a sales office in Hamburg in 1905 to sell its starch products in Germany. In 1916 Maizena was also registered as a trademark . In Germany the company had factories and sales branches in Berlin , Hamburg, Barby (built 1922/1923), see Maizena-Werke Barby , and Krefeld .
From 1922 Maizena took a stake in the Knorr food factory in Heilbronn , the majority of which was acquired in 1958. In 1987 the company headquarters was relocated to Heilbronn.
After the Second World War, the West German Maizena relocated production from Hamburg to Krefeld. Also in the GDR (ie in the later expropriated factory Barby) production continued under the name Maizena , after 1949 under Maisan .
In 1998, CPC was split up. Maizena came to the food division called Bestfoods . In autumn 2000 Bestfoods was integrated into the British-Dutch group Unilever .
description
The Maizena product is a corn starch that has been freed of protein, fat and fibers and is used to thicken and thicken soups, sauces and desserts or fondues. Unlike other starch flours like potato starch, it can be cooked longer without thinning again.
