Maksimas katche (dt. Wilhelm Johannes Arwed Max Kattchée or Kattchee , Russ. Макс Арведович Катхе ) (born October 24, jul. / 5. November  1879 greg. In Jonischken , county Siauliai , Kovno Governorate , Russian Empire ; † 10. June 1933 in Birsen , Lithuania ) was an Imperial Russian Colonel, Knight of St. George , Lithuanian Lieutenant General and participant in the Lithuanian struggle for independence.

Life

Katche came from a German-Baltic family who had settled in northern Lithuania. He attended the Vladimir Officers School in St. Petersburg and in 1899 became a lieutenant in the Russian Army . From 1904 to 1905 he took part in the Russo-Japanese War . From 1908 to 1911 he worked at the Vilnius War School. During the First World War he took part in the fighting against the Germans on Lithuanian territory from 1914 to 1917. He was born on July 28th . / August 10, 1907 greg. awarded the St. George Cross 4th Class of the Russian Order of St. George and was most recently regimental commander and colonel .

In 1918 he returned to Lithuania, joined the Lithuanian Army on April 16, 1919 and began working as an instructor in the special battalion of Ponewesch (Panevėžys). As a brigade commander he fought successfully against the Bolsheviks , so that Ponevesch and other places in northeast Lithuania could be captured. In the battles against the Free Corps of Bermondter whose operations overlapped by Latvia from Lithuania, he was division commander and was among the eight members of the Lithuanian army, which the Latvian Military Order Lāčplēsis was awarded. During the war against the Poles , Katche was the military representative and chairman of the Lithuanian delegation at the peace negotiations in Suwałki and signed the Suwałki Treaty on October 7, 1920. In 1921 he organized the officer training, of which he was the first chief. He reached the rank of lieutenant general, became chief of the general staff and was awarded the Vytis Cross 5th and 4th class. On October 7, 1922, he retired for health reasons.
