The Malkachan ( Russian Малкачан ), in the upper reaches: Bebe (Бэбе), is a 123 km long tributary of the Sea of Okhotsk in the Magadan Oblast in the Far East of Russia .
River course
The Malkatschan rises at an altitude of about 800 m in the Kolyma Mountains . At the beginning it flows almost 80 km to the south and leaves the mountains. 50 km above the mouth, the Elgen meets the Malkatschan from the right. This then turns to the east and finally flows into the Malkachan Bay on the west coast of the Shelichov Bay in the north of the Sea of Okhotsk. The Malkatschan shows a strongly meandering behavior along its course with numerous river bends and oxbow lakes . In the catchment area of the Malkatschan live Evens , the reindeer herding operate.
Hydrology
The Malkatschan drains an area of 1380 km². The river is fed by both snowmelt and precipitation.
Fish fauna
In the Malkatschan the grayling species Thymallus pallasi and the Siberian bullhead ( Cottus poecilopus ) occur. The river is different from salmon fish as spawning grounds used, including Salvelinus white-spotted charr , Salvelinus levanidovi , Salvelinus malma , chum salmon , pink salmon , coho and sockeye salmon . The three- spined stickleback occurs in the mouth of the Malkatschan .
