The Malzfabrik Mich. Weyermann GmbH & Co. KG is a medium-sized German family company based in Bamberg . In addition to special malts and organic malt , kosher malt is also produced.

history

The company was founded in 1879 by the Bamberg grain trader and master skipper Johann Baptist Weyermann . In 1905 his son Rudolf Weyermann joined the company. Later the company concentrated on the production of specialty malts for beer production. Weyermann developed the Carapils, Carafa and Caramünch malts. The special malts have been produced since 1888 in the building complex on Brennerstraße in Bamberg, which was built according to plans by the master builder Gustav Haeberle (1853–1930). In 1973 the historical production building in Bamberg was declared an industrial monument.

In 1902 the production of Weyermann'sche colored beer began from the roasted and colored malts produced in-house. The surrogate-free and debittered black roasted malt beer Sinamar ("sine amaro" = "without bitterness") was produced from 1905 to the Second World War in the Johann Baptist Weyermann branch in Potsdam . Since then, production in Bamberg has been running under the name "Röstmalzbierbrauerei Heinz Weyermann GmbH". Sinamar is also used for coloring various types of drinks and food. Since 2007 there has also been a product variant manufactured according to Bioland guidelines.

Also in 2005, a warehouse for grain with a capacity of 15,000 tons and a logistics center with an automatic bagging and palletizing system were built at the Bamberg production site opposite the historic production complex. The company's 125-year history was summarized in a book that was distributed for the first time at the drinktec 2005 world fair .
