Rudolf Weyermann

Rudolf Weyermann (born September 7, 1880 in Bamberg , † May 6, 1946 in Erlangen ) was a brewing scientist, factory owner, councilor and honorary citizen of the city of Bamberg.

Life

Rudolf Weyermann was the son of the malt manufacturer Johann Baptist Weyermann in Bamberg. He attended the schools there and started a commercial apprenticeship at the Wassermann bank. He then did an internship in several breweries. From 1902 he studied brewing sciences at the Academy for Agriculture and Brewery in Weihenstephan and was a member of the armed forces and later Landsmannschaft Bavaria zu Weihenstephan . After completing his studies and military service, he joined his father's malt factory in 1905 .

The new St. Otto church in Bamberg -Nord 1912/1914 received generous support from the Weyermann company. In 1916 Rudolf Weyermann married the Eltmann- born entrepreneur's daughter Adele Ankenbrand. After the death of the company founder Johann Baptist Weyermann on October 25, 1919, the management of the company passed to his widow Anna Sabine, née Sippel, and their children Rudolf, Carl and Eva Weyermann.

In 1928 Rudolf Weyermann donated the missing pulpit of the Church of St. Otto on the occasion of the first holy communion of his son Rolf. Many want to recognize the face of the founder in the face of John the Baptist depicted on it. In 1929 Rudolf Weyermann was made an honorary senator of the University of Erlangen . In the same year he set up a foundation for the acquisition of residential property for employees of his company.

Rudolf Weyermann, Commander of the Order of Saint Gregory the Great , died on May 6, 1946 in the Erlangen University Hospital and was buried in the family crypt in the Bamberg cemetery.

Honors

  • In 1928, Rudolf Weyermann was given the title of Dr. due to his generous donations for the construction of the University Library Erlangen (→ Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg ). phil. hc. awarded.
  • In 1928 he was appointed to the committee of the Deutsches Museum , which opened in new buildings in 1925 .
  • In 1930 he received the Golden Ring of Honor due to his patronage towards the Deutsches Museum in Munich .
  • On September 7, 1930, he became the 16th honorary citizen of the city of Bamberg because of his services to the common good - he donated 360,000 Reichsmarks for charitable and social purposes between 1926 and 1929 .
  • In 1984 Weyermannstrasse in the Gaustadt district was named after Rudolf Weyermann.
