Maman Sambo Sidikou (* 1949 ) is a Nigerien politician and diplomat . He was Niger's Foreign Minister from 1997 to 1999 .

Life

Maman Sambo Sidikou holds an Associate Degree from Universidad de Madrid , a Diploma in Journalism from Dakar University and a Masters in Communication Studies from the University of Texas at Austin . From 1976 he worked as a journalist for the Office de Radiodiffusion et Télévision du Niger (ORTN), the state broadcaster in Niger. From 1979 to 1981 he was TV director of the ORTN. He was also a director in the Prime Minister 's Cabinet in 1983 . Sidikou worked as a research fellow at the Center for International Studies of the Learning Systems Institute at Florida State University in the early 1990s . At this university wrote his dissertation he 1994 in Education on adult education in Niger. From 1994 to 1995 he worked for USAID in Niamey as a development cooperation manager .

Under the head of state Ibrahim Baré Maïnassara , who came to power in a military coup in January 1996 , Sidikou was initially appointed advisor to the presidential chancellery. On December 1, 1997 he was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs and African Integration in the government of Prime Minister Ibrahim Hassane Mayaki . He held this office until the fall of Ibrahim Baré Maïnassara's regime on April 9, 1999.

Maman Sambo Sidikou then worked for international organizations in development cooperation. From 2000 to 2001 he was Head of Education, Water and Sanitation at UNICEF in Abuja . From 2001 to 2002 he worked as a team leader for the UNICEF back-to-school campaign in Kabul . Sidikou then moved from UNICEF to the World Bank . For these he worked from 2002 to 2005 as a high-ranking specialist for educational issues in Washington, DC . Again for UNICEF he worked from 2005 to 2007 in Amman as coordinator for education and culture at the UNICEF program for Iraq . From 2007 to 2010 he was Head of Education at UNICEF in Nigeria . He was Country Director for Rwanda in 2010 and Country Director for the Democratic Republic of the Congo from 2010 to 2011 . His task was to coordinate the activities of USAID, the United Nations , the World Bank and Save the Children with development partners.

From 2011 to 2014 Sidikou was Niger's ambassador to the United States . He then took over the leadership of the African Union Mission in Somalia . In 2015 he became head of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in place of Martin Kobler .

Maman Sambo Sidikou is married to the diplomat Fatima Djibo Sidikou and has two children.
