The Mandlkogel with a height of 2279  m above sea level. A. is located in the Gosau ridge of the Dachstein massif . The summit lies in the municipal areas of Annaberg-Lungötz (Salzburg) and Gosau (Upper Austria).

The Stuhlalm and Theodor-Körner-Hut serve as nearby starting points for ascent . The normal route leads over the Mandlkogelsteig from the south. In 1913, the Viennese mountaineer Paul Preuss fell fatally in the upper part of the edge while attempting to climb the northern edge for the first time.
