Manes Meckenstock (* 13. May 1961 as Jörg Friedrich Hermann Kempkes in Dusseldorf-Flingern) is a comedian , presenter and author of Dusseldorf .

Artistic career

Meckenstock grew up in simple circumstances in the Düsseldorf working-class district of Flingern. After graduating from high school in 1980, he studied administrative law. As a recognized conscientious objector, he did his community service in the care and care of the elderly and then worked as a hairdresser and make-up artist. A hair customer recommended him to the radio in 1990 because of his pithy voice. His satirical column Kapaftisch at Antenne Düsseldorf dealt with Düsseldorf and its residents in Rheinisch, for which he took the maiden name of his mother: Meckenstock.

The great success of this column led to a first engagement at the Düsseldorfer Kom (m) ödchen . Bettina Böttinger saw him there and signed him to WDR , where he worked for various editorial teams.

Meckenstock became known nationwide through the entertainment program Zimmer frei! . For 15 years, he acted as an outside reporter through the living rooms of the prominent guests. He was the presenter of the Sunday program Kuckuck at Antenne Düsseldorf , and also worked as a speaker and author for HR3 and Deutsche Welle .

After a racist statement in his radio show in September 2007 ("When I see Gülcan, I regret that the Nuremberg race laws no longer exist.") , For which he later apologized publicly, he gave up the moderation of his show. In 2014 he resumed the program as a monthly format.

His media presence at WDR was also suspended - after a break of several months, Meckenstock was again free as a reporter at Zimmer from January 2008 to 2011 ! active.

In 2011 Meckenstock switched to the regional broadcaster Center TV Düsseldorf , where he received a monthly broadcast format until the station closed in December 2017: Manes up Jück (Rhenish for: Manes on the move).

In 2005 he opened the “Meckenstocks” inn with an attached cabaret in the Düsseldorf district of Unterbilk : the “House of Joy”. Due to a subway construction site in front of his pub, Meckenstock took over the traditional restaurant with boathouse in the Volksgarten Düsseldorf at Easter 2010 in order to continue the concept of the old location. In 2015 he retired from gastronomy.

Meckenstock has been performing as an entertainer on the Aida cruise ships since 2016.

social commitment

In March 2004, Meckenstock founded the non-profit culture support association Himmel & Ähd eV , which is committed to the promotion of cabaret and culture in Düsseldorf. As the first chairman, he organizes events in Düsseldorf and the surrounding area. a. in the house of joy .

Meckenstock has been organizing and moderating benefit auctions for various associations since 2005, and a Christmas market since 2010, the proceeds of which go to charitable institutions.

Düsseldorf's Lord Mayor Thomas Geisel (right) presented the state capital's Martinstaler to Manes Meckenstock.

For his voluntary work, Meckenstock was awarded the Martinstaler of the state capital Düsseldorf in November 2018.
