Manfred A. Biondi

Manfred A. Biondi (born March 5, 1924 in Carlstadt , New Jersey , † September 28, 2016 in Charleston , West Virginia ) was an American physicist .

Biondi received a BS from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1944 and a Ph.D. for physics there too. He was with Westinghouse Electric Corporation until 1960 , first as Research Physicist to Advisory Physcist until 1957 and then as Manager of the Physics Department. In 1959 he became a Fellow of the American Physical Society . From 1960 to 1986 he was Professor of Physics at the University of Pittsburgh .

Biondi was a visiting fellow at the National Bureau of Standards of the Joint Institute for Laboratory Astrophysics (JILA) from 1972 to 1973, an exchange professor at the University of Paris from 1976 to 1986 , and a member of the Army Basic Research Steering Committee at the National Research Council from 1985 to 1988 and from 1987 to 1988 its chairman.

Biondi engaged in his research a. a. with the development of innovative experimental techniques in collision processes between electrons and ions.
