Manfred Fischer (pastor, 1948)
Manfred Fischer (born February 7, 1948 in Frankfurt am Main ; † December 6, 2013 in Berlin ) was a German Protestant pastor.
Life
Fischer studied Protestant theology in Frankfurt and at the Church University in Berlin . After graduation, he came to the reconciliation community in the Berlin district of Wedding in December 1975 and became its pastor in 1977. The parish church stood in the border strip of the Berlin Wall and was blown up in January 1985.
After the political change in the GDR, Fischer campaigned for the preservation of the remains of the wall on Bernauer Strasse . He was first deputy and then chairman of the Berlin Wall Association. He played a key role in shaping the concept adopted by the Berlin Senate in June 2006 for the Berlin Wall Memorial .
Under his direction, the Chapel of Reconciliation was built on the foundations of the abandoned Church of Reconciliation and consecrated on November 9, 2000. He retired on April 28, 2013, and died on December 6, 2013 in Berlin. He left a wife and two children.
