Manfred Lindner (archaeologist)

Manfred Lindner (born July 22, 1918 in Nuremberg ; † October 30, 2007 there ) was a German neurologist and Nabataean researcher.

Life

Manfred Lindner studied medicine, psychology and philosophy in Erlangen and Munich and received his doctorate in Erlangen in 1944 at the medical faculty and the philosophy faculty. From 1954 to 2001 he worked as a freelance neurologist in Nuremberg. Since the early 1960s he has been doing archaeological research in the rock city of Petra in Jordan and its surroundings. He became a recognized specialist in the archeology and history of the Nabataeans .

His research was supported by the Natural History Society of Nuremberg , of which Lindner was chairman from 1967 to 1985, and of which he founded the Department of Foreign Archeology. Lindner was involved in the creation of an exhibition about the Nabataeans, which was shown in Munich, Nuremberg and Belgium in 1970. In 1991, together with John P. Zeitler, he planned the exhibition "Petra - Queen of the Weihrauchstrasse" in the Nuremberg City Museum Fembohaus .

Lindner was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit (1st class) (2006), the Bavarian Monument Protection Medal and the Citizens Medal of the City of Nuremberg (1996). In addition, he was an honorary member of the German Association for the Exploration of Palestine .
