Ulrich Hübner (archaeologist)

Ulrich Hübner (born April 16, 1952 in Neunkirchen (Saar) ) is a German Protestant theologian , biblical archaeologist . From 1994 to 2017 he was professor at the Institute for Old Testament Studies and Biblical Archeology at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel .

Life

Ulrich Hübner studied from 1973 to 1979 in Mainz , Basel , Bethel and Tübingen the subjects Protestant Theology, Ancient Near Eastern Languages ​​and Near Eastern Archeology. In 1979 he passed the First Theological Examination. From 1984 to 1986 he completed the vicariate in Bad Kreuznach .

From 1979 to 1984 Ulrich Hübner worked as a research assistant for the Old Testament and Biblical Archeology at the Evangelical Theological Faculty of the University of Mainz. At the same time, from 1980 to 1984 he was teaching Biblical Hebrew at the Catholic Theological Faculty of the University of Mainz . From 2004 to 2006 he was dean of the theological faculty at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel .

Ulrich Hübner also worked on numerous excavations on Tell es-Seba , Hirbet al-Mšaš in the Negev (1974–1975), on Tell el-Oreme ( Kinneret ) / Galilee (1982–1985) and in Gadara (Umm Qais) / Northern Jordan (1998) participated. In 1999 he worked temporarily in the museum in Hama / Syria .

From 1998 to 2012 Ulrich Hübner was chairman of the German Association for the Exploration of Palestine . He is co-editor of the book series Asia and Africa of the Center for Asian and African Studies at the University of Kiel.

Since 1997 and 2001 respectively co-director and director of the Petra Regional Survey in South Jordan. Since 1996 he has been leading the archaeological surveys in the region around Petra in southern Jordan and the excavations on Umm Saisaban. He wrote several articles in the Biographical-Bibliographical Church Lexicon (BBKL).

He has been retired since 2017.
