Manfred Matzka

Manfred Matzka (born December 14, 1950 in Waidhofen an der Thaya , Lower Austria ) is an Austrian civil servant and former section head of Section I (Presidential Section) in the Federal Chancellery . From the beginning of June 2019, the now retired civil servant was special advisor to Chancellor Brigitte Bierlein .

Life

After visiting the elementary school from 1956 to 1960 and the school Waidhofen an der Thaya 1968, he put the Matura, then studied law at the University of Vienna and graduated with a doctorate to Dr. iur. 1975 onwards.

In 1972 he began his professional activity as a study assistant at the Institute for Roman Law at the Faculty of Law at the University of Vienna and from 1975 as an assistant at the Institute for Constitutional and Administrative Law. From 1980 to 1987 he was in the constitutional service in the Federal Chancellery responsible for constitutional law, administrative organization, human rights and data protection, most recently as head of department. Subsequently, in 1987 he became a consultant in the office of the Federal Ministry for Health and Public Service . In 1989 Manfred Matzka became head of cabinet of the Federal Minister of the Interior Franz Löschnak . In 1993 Manfred Matzka became head of the section for aliens, asylum, passport, citizenship and migration and he was the coordinator of Schengen and EU affairs in the department. From 1999 until his retirement in 2015 he was Head of Section I (Presidential Section) in the Federal Chancellery .

Manfred Matzka was a member of the Austria Convention from 2003 to 2005 . In 2019 he was called back to the Federal Chancellery by Chancellor Bierlein as an advisor.

Manfred Matzka was also a lecturer at the University of Vienna and is a lecturer at the FH Campus Wien. He has been Vice President of Austrian Standards International since 2011 and has been Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Bundestheater-Holding since 2015. He is the author of numerous legal and non-legal publications, including the book "Die Staatskanzlei" about the Palais am Ballhausplatz.

Private

Manfred Matzka is married to the social democratic politician Anica Matzka-Dojder . Since 1997 they have jointly owned an old stone house near Opatija (of which he is an honorary citizen) in Croatia.
