Manfred Wolf (geologist)

Manfred Bruno Wolf (born March 20, 1931 in Weißenborn , † September 1, 2010 in Freiberg ) was a German geologist. He was a member of the People's Chamber of the GDR .

Wolf attended schools in Freiberg from 1941 . In 1949 he obtained his Abitur at the Albertinum grammar school there and then began training in mining. From 1950 to 1955 he studied at the Bergakademie Freiberg . After completing his studies, Wolf became technical director of the VEB Flußspatgruben Ilmenau-Gehren and later operations manager. In 1961 he moved to the Bergakademie as editor-in-chief for publications. He then worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Mineralogy and Depository Studies and received his doctorate in 1962.

In 1964, Wolf accepted an appointment at the University of Potosí as professor for mineral deposits and mining. In 1967 he returned to the Bergakademie as a lecturer for non-European deposits and mineral raw materials. In 1973 he received his doctorate B to Dr. sc. nat. Wolf took over the chair for economic geology at the Bergakademie in 1975. From 1976 he belonged to the Central Stock Commission for Mineralogical Raw Materials (ZVK) as well as the parity German-Soviet expert commission for the SDAG Wismut. Between 1980 and 1984 he was director of the Geosciences Section at the Bergakademie Freiberg. In 1983 he was appointed to the National Committee for Geological Sciences of the GDR. In 1992 he was removed from his position as professor.

Wolf joined the SED in 1958. With the mandate of the FDGB , he was a member of the People's Chamber of the GDR from 1963 to 1967 and 1971 to 1990.

The University of Potosí awarded him an honorary doctorate in 1978 . Wolf died in Freiberg in 2010 and was buried in the Donatsfriedhof .
