Manitoba Hydro is a utility company headquartered in Winnipeg , Manitoba , Canada . It was founded in 1961 and is owned by the Province of Manitoba. As a network operator from Manitoba Hydro in addition to a natural gas network and an extended three-phase high-voltage transmission network with more than 9000 km of cable length (transport network) as well as high-voltage direct current -Leitung (HVDC) executed and nearly 1000 km long Nelson-River- Bipol operated. This line transports electrical energy from the sparsely populated north of Manitoba to the more densely populated region around Winnipeg.
history
The first electrical supply in Winnipeg began on March 12, 1873. The benefits of electrical supply were demonstrated on a building known as the Davis House Hotel , located on Main Street. In 1880 the Manitoba Electric and Gas Light Company was founded.
