Manolo Lohnes , actually Hans-Herbert wages , (* 12. December 1943 in Freiburg ) is a German flamenco - guitarist .

Life

Lohnes began learning to play the guitar at the age of 16. Even then, he dedicated himself to the folk art of Andalusia as well as to Spanish culture and history. He studied classical guitar with Kurt Gudian for three years . He lived repeatedly in Spain and worked there with singers, dancers and guitarists.

On the occasion of his concerts he toured Europe and the United States and was a guest on numerous radio and television programs. For example, he accompanied Paco de Lucía on his first European tour. His main residence is in the Mainz-Bretzenheim district . He also runs a flamenco studio in Mainz, which has been working with the Mainz bookseller Christof Jung - also a recognized flamenco expert - for several years for bibliophile publications such as Nanas since 1970 . Lullabies from Spain., Rejelendres Calós. Proverbs of Spanish Gypsies., Word list of the dialect of the Spanish gypsies. or The performers of the cante flamenco. was responsible.

On the occasion of the awarding of the Gutenberg Medal by Mayor Michael Ebling of Mainz , he accompanied the Advent readings of children's book author Helga Höfle in the City History Museum . Ebling mentioned in this context: "The fact that we are half Spaniards here in Mainz - at least in our hearts - is not only due to our long-term city partnership with Valencia , but above all to a Mainz guitarist who has been delighting us with Spanish music for half a century." With a twinkle in his eye, Lohnes also recognized the commitment to efforts to preserve the memory of old Mainz.

In 2011 the Mainz Forum-Theater wrote “ Unterhaus ”: “Whenever there was a real crash between the 'Poli (t) zisten' and there was ' Not am Mann ' in the basement on Gutenbergplatz , the Unterhaus chronicle reads:' First guest appearances by artist friends were the solution. ' Then of course he was there: Manolo Lohnes, whom the local people had met at Waldeck Castle . If you open an ancient Waldeck program, you will find the following: Hans-Herbert Lohnes, born in Freiburg / Breisgau in 1943, law student in Frankfurt / Main. Hans-Herbert becomes Manolo, the boy, who only started to learn the guitar at the age of 16, becomes the exception in the republic, a monopoly in the field of Central European Flamenco, a German 'Spaniard', the grandiose, with technical Precision, rhythmic empathy and immense feeling, (flamenco) playing guitar, composing, arranging.
