history

Manolzweiler around 1685 ( Kiesersche forest map )

Neolithic finds confirm a long continuity of settlement on the fertile plateau. Manolzweiler (originally Manetzwiler , probably after a locator named Manolf ) was first mentioned around 1400 in a Württemberg warehouse register. The founding of the town, which was probably but not documented in the High Middle Ages from the Winterbacher Königshof, was certainly related to the location on an old traffic route that led from the Remstal near Beutelsbach via Manolzweiler and the Schurwald to the Filstal near Uhingen .

Ownership of the Esslingen hospital in town is mentioned in 1413. Wuerttemberg goods and rights came in 1466 as initial equipment to the nearby Engelberg monastery donated by Count Ulrich , which in 1468 acquired additional property on site from a citizen of Esslingen. After the abolition of the monastery in 1538, Manolzweiler belonged to the Oberamt (from 1934 district) Schorndorf until 1938 . In 1562 Manolzweiler was divided into four hereditary fiefdoms , which remained essentially unchanged until 1692 and whose division can still be traced in the townscape today. The Hirsch inn, which was mentioned in a document as early as 1628, long served as a post office on the road leading into Filstal; the tethering devices for the horses have been preserved to this day.
