Mantonico Bianco is a very old white wine variety from southern Italy . It is mainly cultivated around the town of Bianco in the Italian region of Calabria . B. is contained in the DOC wines Bivongi and Donnici .
Dessert wine is mainly made from the grapes. The vines are said to have their origin in Greece and were brought from there to southern Italy in ancient times. Mantonico di Bianco is related to the red Gaglioppo variety, also known as Mantonico Nero . Gaglioppo was created through a spontaneous crossing of Sangiovese and Mantonico bianco. The Sicilian grape variety Catarratto Bianco comune is a cross between Mantonico bianco and Garganega .
The grape variety must not be confused with the Montonico Bianco variety .
