List of grape varieties |
Gaglioppo is a very old red wine that is believed to have come from Greece . It is mainly grown in the Calabria region (→ viticulture in Italy ). It is believed that Gaglioppo is related to the Aglianico and Magliocco Canino varieties . According to DNA studies from 2010, Gaglioppo comes from the Sangiovese × Mantonico Bianco grape varieties .
The variety thrives excellently in dry climates and has a high sugar content (see must weight ). From her vinified wines such as the Ciro are thus quite rich in alcohol. In addition to the Cirò region, Gaglioppo is also found in the following quality wines: Bivongi , Donnici , Lamezia , Melissa , Pollino , Savuto , Scaviglia , Verbicaro . In the 1990s a planted vineyard area of 7017 hectares was raised.
The Gaglioppo wine is often blended to a small extent with white or red grape varieties.
