Manushaqe Shehu

Manushaqe Shehu (born November 5, 1965 in Peshkopia ) is an Albanian lawyer and officer with the rank of brigadier general . Since 2018 she has been Deputy Chief of Staff ( Albanian  Komandant i Komandës së Doktrinës dhe Stërvitjes ) of the Albanian Armed Forces .

Manushaqe Shehu is the first woman in Albania and the entire Balkans to achieve the rank of general . She has distinguished herself several times for her commitment to promoting women in the military and military-civil cooperation.

education

Manushaqe Shehu comes from a family of members of the army: in addition to her father and uncle, her two brothers also served in the army. At the age of 19 she began her studies at the High Academy for Officers in Tirana in 1984 , which she successfully completed in 1988. From 1989 to 1994 she studied at the Law Faculty of Shkodra University .

Between 2000 and 2002 she trained as a general staff officer at the military academy in Tirana. From 2004 to 2005 she attended logistical and military training courses in Tours and at the Academy of the General Staff in Tirana. In 2007 she began studying at the University for Regional Security and Defense, which she successfully completed in 2010 with a master's degree in national security and continued with a doctorate.

Until 2016, she completed several courses at the military educational institutions of European members of NATO . This enabled her to strengthen her skills in the areas of gender equality in peace missions, leadership, military-civil cooperation and the fight against human trafficking .

Career

Upon successful completion of their officer training she was assigned back to their birthplace and head of the commissariat of a battalion of the brigade appointed 3900th In 1991 she received the rank of captain . In the following years she held several management positions and rose to head of logistics for Division 1100 in Shkodra . In 1996 the Ministry of Defense appointed her a specialist in financial control and emergency military reserves.

Between 2000 and 2002 she worked as a translator and was part of a team at the United States Department of Defense in Tirana. In 2003 she was promoted to major and was appointed head of the Albanian Armed Forces Supply Service. In this role she worked on projects for the restructuring of the armed forces in general and logistics in particular until 2004. After her promotion to lieutenant colonel , she became chief of protocol in the general staff.

On October 8, 2007, she appointed President Bamir Topi as his military assistant for the NATO accession process, which was completed in 2009. In 2010 she was promoted to colonel . In February 2011, she took up her position as military advisor to the president . From September 2012 she headed the Department for Military-Civil Cooperation in the Ministry of Defense.

In November 2016 she was appointed commander of the Academy for NCOs and promoted to Brigadier General as the first woman in Albania . From December 2016 to January 2018, she headed the Doctrine and Training Command ( Albanian  Komanda e Doktrinës dhe Stërvitjes ) and is therefore responsible for the military training of all soldiers in the Albanian Armed Forces. She has been Deputy Chief of Staff of the Albanian Armed Forces since January 16, 2018.

Awards

Manushaqe Shehu received several awards and medals from the Albanian Ministry of Defense and the General Staff of the Albanian Armed Forces. Reasons were, among other things, her achievements as a sportswoman and her commitment to the implementation of Resolution 1325 of the UN Security Council within the Albanian army.

Private

Manushaqe Shehu is married and has a son and a daughter.
