Maoyū Maō Yūsha ( Japanese ま お ゆ う 魔王 勇者 , eng. "Demon King and Hero") is a series of novels by Mamare Tōno , which has been adapted as various manga series and as an anime television series. The manga also use an English alternative title Archenemy and Hero ("Arch enemy and hero") on the cover.

The work combines fantasy with economics and is about how the ruler of the demons as representative of "evil" together with the hero as representative of "good" try to lead the world to prosperity and peace.

action

The human world is at war with demons. To end this, the hero ( 勇者 , Yūsha ) wants to slay the demon king ( 魔王 , Maō ). He penetrates his fortress, but meets with no resistance and then meets the demon king who, to his amazement, is a woman who greets him politely. She asks him to become hers, but he refuses and he refers to the destruction and deaths caused by the demons in the countries of the Southern Coalition ( 南部 連 合 , Nambu Rengō ). She then presented him with a study that showed that the war had a positive impact on both economic and population growth. She points out that because of the common threat posed by the demons, people put their disputes aside and formed an alliance in which countries with a food surplus gave food to barren countries, advanced countries sent their experts to underdeveloped countries and their agriculture and medical Improved care. The war also helped the demons, as their warlike society of individual tribes also put aside their internal quarrels. The hero is hesitant to believe that the war had positive effects, but that does not mean that it should continue.

The demon queen again refers to her study: the southern coalition, which forms the front, receives huge amounts of war- essential and everyday goods from the Middle Countries ( 中央 諸国 , Chūō Shokoku ), which in turn is covered by war credits from the other countries for the southern coalition become. The end of the war would therefore mean the removal of their sales market for the Middle Countries and an economic collapse, which in turn would lead to misery. She says that therefore the human kings are not interested in an end to the war and this is probably the reason why he, the hero, was sent alone.

She describes herself as physically weak and magically not gifted and that she is actually an economist who more or less by chance became the Demon King. She goes on to state that no matter which side wins, the other would be enslaved. As a scientist, she is therefore looking for a way to prevent this.

She asks him again to be hers and offers herself to him. Because of their attractiveness, he agrees. Both travel incognito into the human world, where he assumes an identity as a white swordsman ( 白 の 剣 士 , Shiro no Kenshi ) and she an identity as a scarlet scholar ( 紅 の 学士 , Kurenai no Gakushi ), accompanied by her servant. There she wants to advance human civilization.

publication

Mamare Tōno started with the novel in 2009 on the Internet forum 2channel , where on September 3, 2009, on its news board News Sokuhō (VIP) Ita, he wrote the thread “Maō: 'Kono Ware no Mono to Nare, Yūsha yo' Yūsha: 'Kotowaru! '”( 魔王『 こ の 我 の も の と な れ 、 勇者 よ 』勇者『 断 る! 』 ,“ Demon King:' Be mine, hero! 'Hero:' Rejected! '”). Up until November 22, 2009, the original version of the work as an Internet novel with a length of 900,000 characters was created piece by piece over a period of three months in discussion with the other thread participants. For the New Year, the game designer Shōji Masuda became aware of the work on Twitter , who a few months later during the Golden Week offered him to help bring the work into book form.

Mamare Tōno was finally signed by the Enterbrain publishing house , which professionally published the work as a light novel (illustrated novel). The revised and expanded version of his work was published on December 29, 2010 as the first volume of novels. Four more volumes followed by January 21, 2012:
