Maquassi Hills ( English Maquassi Hills Local Municipality ) is a South African local municipality in the Dr Kenneth Kaunda district of the Northwest Province . The seat of the municipality is Wolmaransstad . The name, also written Makwassie and the name of another place in the municipality in this spelling, is derived from a Khoisan word for Croton gratissimus, a species of Croton .

The African National Congress (ANC) leads the community. Mayor is Vicky Kgabi (ANC).

In 2011 the community had 77,794 inhabitants. 88.7% of these were black, 8.2% white and 2.3% colored .

First language was 71.7% Setswana , 10.6% Afrikaans, 6.6% Sesotho , 4.1% IsiXhosa , 1.8% English, 1.5% isiZulu and 1.1% isiNdebele .
