Maras is a small town in south-central Peru about 40 km from Cuzco . Maras is the administrative seat of the district of the same name in the province of Urubamba ( Cusco region ). In the 2017 census, 3385 inhabitants were counted. Maras is part of the "Sacred Valley of the Incas " on the River Urubamba .

Worth seeing

In Maras there is a church from the time of Spanish colonialism (summer residence of the viceroy ).

economy

In terraced salt pans, salt is extracted from the successive evaporation of the natural brine in the sun. The transport by truck to the sea near Lima takes 20 hours.
