Marc Fischer (journalist)
Marc Fischer (born April 23, 1970 in Hamburg ; † April 2, 2011 in Berlin ) was a German journalist and book author.
life and work
Fischer wrote reports for Tempo , Der Spiegel , den stern , the now magazine of the Süddeutsche Zeitung , the Bild am Sonntag , the Swiss magazine Faces and the German edition of the Vanity Fair . He was also active from 2005 to 2010 under the pseudonym Returner as a copywriter, co-copywriter and singer for the band Torpedo Boyz . In 2011 he committed suicide at the age of 40.
Because of his work for the magazine Tempo , he was considered a pioneer of pop journalism in the 1990s, in which the reporting journalist appeared as the acting subject in his own article, but no longer only published in specialist magazines. An interview with the Icelandic singer Björk in 1995 , with whom he climbed onto a roof, was seen as defining the style.
Der Spiegel paid tribute to Fischer: "Inspired by the New Journalism of a Gay Talese, Fischer rose to star in the mid-nineties with the monthly magazine" Tempo "at a very young age. After that, he could have chosen a desk from the established media, but he continued to roam the remote ones Corners of the world, always on the hunt for stories, driven by a longing for a broken beauty that was more important to him than a regular monthly salary. "
The book Hobalala - In Search of João Gilberto , which Fischer wrote about his project to find the reclusive Brazilian bossa nova musician João Gilberto , was published posthumously . Director Georges Gachot filmed this search in 2018 under the title Where are you, João Gilberto?
