Energy Economics Institute at the University of Cologne (EWI)

The EWI , run by Bettzüge, is a 100 percent subsidiary of the Cologne University Foundation. It is financed, among other things, by institutional funding from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Previously, the EWI was supported by the University of Cologne and the Association for the Promotion of the Energy Industry Institute at the University of Cologne eV, to which more than 40 organizations, associations and companies belong. The EWI receives financial and material funding from various sources, including from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, the University of Cologne and the companies E.ON and RWE . Additional funds are generated through research projects and reports.

Energy scenarios for an energy concept of the federal government

In 2010, the EWI, run by Bettzüge, prepared an expert report for the federal government together with Prognos AG and the Society for Economic Structural Research (GWS) . The energy scenarios for an energy concept by the federal government consider the possible consequences of various service life extensions for German nuclear power plants on the electricity mix, CO₂ emissions and electricity prices for private households and industry.

The media questioned the neutrality of the report on various occasions.

Bettzüge has been a member of the Federal Government's Expert Council for Climate Issues since August 2020 .

Enquête Commission

From 2011 to 2013, Bettzüge was a member of the Enquête Commission on Growth, Prosperity and Quality of Life of the German Bundestag .
