Marcel Büchel (born March 18, 1991 in Feldkirch ) is a Liechtenstein - Austrian football player in the position of midfielder .

Büchel made his competitive debut as a professional against an Austrian club when he played for almost 30 minutes in the Europa League group game against FC Red Bull Salzburg on November 4, 2010 .

Career

Career start in Feldkirch

Born in 1991 in Vorarlberg's second largest city , Büchel first began a career as a skier before he could even gain a foothold in football. As a skier, Büchel, whose family is also very enthusiastic about sports and, above all, skiing, was considered to be one of the greatest young talents in the country and, as a member of the WSV Nofels, was three-time student champion in 2000, 2003 and 2004. Also his brother, who was around five years older Raphael was a successful skier in his youth and was also a student champion at WSV Nofels in 2001. Marcel Büchel finally began his real career as a football player in his hometown at FC Blau-Weiß Feldkirch , whose youth department he soon moved to the Federal Youth Center ( BNZ) Vorarlberg changed. After some time at the Vorarlberg junior academy , Büchel came to the Linz Football Academy , where he was active from then on.

Change to Switzerland

At an advanced age, the left-footed man finally received an offer from Switzerland , and FC St. Gallen wanted to bring him to the youth department. After a successful transfer to Gallusstadt, Büchel attended the St. Gallen commercial and interpreting school. After a few instructive years in the St. Gallen youth team, the young Austrian talent, who, among others, Inter Milan canceled after completing a trial training session due to his slender stature and small body size, moved to AC Siena in Italy, where he immediately received a young professional contract and only a few months was then equipped with a five-year contract.

First successes in Italy

The club from Tuscany , he completed a successful season with the Primavera team and a few times it was brought into the professional team that season on at this time in the premium Italian Serie A had. In January 2010, Büchel was brought into the professional squad for the first time as a substitute for a Serie A game and sat on the substitute bench in front of 44,000 spectators during the 4-0 defeat of his team against AC Milan . The then 18-year-old had already sat on the bench of AC Siena for the first time in November in the third round match of Coppa Italia 2009/10 against US Grosseto . After the club's relegation to the second division, Büchel was initially scheduled as a player for the fighting team for the coming 2010/11 season and had previously received offers from the Lega Pro Prima Divisione , the third highest division in Italian football , including from the US Cremonese .

In the summer of 2010, the 27-time Italian champions Juventus Turin got in touch with the 19-year-old midfielder, whereupon Büchel traveled to Turin without a manager to negotiate the contract. He was promised an early engagement in the Primaverateam as well as five to ten guaranteed appearances in Serie A. After Büchel, referred to as a “creative player” and “gifted left footer” by the Austrian U-19 team boss Andreas Heraf, among others , had signed the loan contract, he soon played in friendly matches for the professional team and also played his first games in September 2010 Primavera team of the club.

Compulsory game debut at Juventus Turin

After Büchel sat on the Turin bench in the 2010/11 UEFA Europa League qualifying game against SK Sturm Graz, among other things , he made his first competitive appearance for Juventus Turin in the later main competition in the group stage. After the successful Turin club had to do without 17 players in the second leg against FC Red Bull Salzburg and thus Büchel's chances of playing in this match were significantly increased, the 19-year-old was 0-0 on November 4, 2010 - His team's home draw in the 63rd minute came on as a substitute for Miloš Krasić and completed just under 30 minutes in left midfield.

Loan stations in Italy

In the 2011/12 season Büchel was to AS Gubbio in 1910 in the series B awarded. In 2012/13 he played for the US Cremonese in the Lega Pro Prima Divisione . In 2013/14 a loan to SS Virtus Lanciano followed , and in 2014/15 to FC Bologna . Both clubs played in Serie B. In the summer of 2015 Büchel was awarded to the first division club FC Empoli . He played 28 games in the 2015/16 season and scored two goals, after which Empoli signed him. In the following season , Büchel rose with the team. He was then awarded to Hellas Verona , who had just been promoted to Serie A, and Büchel was firmly committed in the summer of 2018.

International

Büchel only gained his first experience in an Austrian youth team at the age of 18, when he was appointed to the squad of the U-19 national team in his home country for the first time in August 2009. After he was called up to the U-19 squad again in September 2009, he made his international debut on September 8, 2009 in a 5-1 win against his colleagues from Slovenia , when he was on the pitch and in the 70th minute of the game was replaced by Miodrag Vukajlović . Soon after his debut in the red-white-red national dress, Büchel was appointed by U-19 national coach Andreas Heraf to Austria's 18-man squad, which took part in qualifying for the 2011 U-19 European Football Championship .

The legionnaire finally made his debut in the U-19 European Championship qualification on October 10, 2009 in the Austrian 5-1 victory over the U-19 team from Armenia , when he was used from the start and through from minute 57 Tobias Kainz was replaced. After another 36-minute assignment two days later in a 4-0 defeat against his colleagues from Romania , Büchel's time in the Austrian U-19 national team was over after only three international matches. After he did not get the necessary attention from team boss Heraf during his time in the U-19 national team, he threw him out of the team after Büchel, who was only brought into the team for another qualifying game, did not want to travel to France .

On September 18, 2015, it was announced that Büchel had accepted Liechtenstein citizenship and would play for the principality's national team in the future.
