Marcel Geisser (* 1952 in St. Gallen ) is a Swiss Zen teacher , founder and director of Haus Tao in Wolfhalden .

Life

Geisser began studying Buddhism as early as 1968 . In the 1970s he practiced Tibetan Buddhism with Geshe Rabten and Vipassana in India with SN Goenka , in Chinese , Korean and Japanese monasteries . From 1978 he did long-term retreats in the USA in the Insight Meditation Society with Joseph Goldstein .

After training in Gestalt therapy and bioenergetic analysis at the ZIST (Center for Individual and Social Therapy) with Dr. Wolf Büntig worked as a psychotherapist in his own practice for over 16 years. During this time he also deepened his meditation experience with teachers such as the Korean Zen master Ku San, Kyozan Joshu Sasaki , Genro Koudela , Jack Kornfield and Joseph Goldstein . In 1990 he became a student of the Vietnamese Zen monk Thich Nhat Hanh , by whom he was ordained a Dharma teacher (Dharmacharya) in 1994 .

In 1986 Geisser founded the Haus Tao meditation center , and in 1999, together with a group of students and friends, the lay order Sati-Zen-Sangha , combining in particular the tradition of Vipassana and Zen . Since 1983 he has been teaching in Switzerland, Germany, Austria and India, where he regularly gives lectures, seminars and retreats . He gives "in-depth training" in Buddhist meditation and trains Zen teachers in the Sati Zen tradition.

He is also active at international meetings for networking Buddhists, for example within the framework of the European Buddhist Union and represents the Swiss Buddhists at the World Buddhist Summit in Bangkok in 2005, in Japan in 2008 and in Vietnam in 2010, and at the Global Buddhist Congregation in New Delhi in 2011. He is a member of the Swiss Buddhist Union , in which he held a leading position for years. Geisser is also one of the few Buddhist teachers in Switzerland who is also active in interreligious dialogue . For example, 1994–1998 in the Buddhist-Christian Dialogue at the Lassalle-Haus , Bad Schönbrunn, Switzerland and at numerous symposia of the regional churches to this day.

In teaching Buddhism, Geisser tries to reconcile the authentic teaching with the realities of the people in the West, which he also expresses in his book The Buddhas of the Future . In the inner-Buddhist dialogue, too, he stands for a cross-school understanding of Buddhism and a Buddhist ecumenism in Europe.
