The Reformed Church in Graubünden Valendas is a Protestant - Reformed church under cantonal conservation .

History and equipment

The church is first documented as a late Gothic building with a striking pointed spire on the tower in 1481 as the successor to a Romanesque predecessor that can no longer be dated, but is much older . The baroque organ with its splendid ornamentation on the two-winged prospect is a gift from the Valencian citizen Johann Peter Marchion (1669–1742).

The round, three-sided closed choir with baptismal font in the middle is striking . The pulpit under the keel arch mediates between the choir and the ship . The stained glass in the choir windows is more recent, replacing the old ones dating from the 16th century that were sold in 1912.

According to legend, the church was only spared from destruction in the Grisons turmoil because invading Catholic soldiers found three images of saints that had not been removed even after the Reformation was adopted in 1523 and therefore shrank from being pillaged.

Church organization

The Evangelical Reformed Regional Church of Graubünden leads Valendas, which has traditionally been in a pastoral community either with Sagogn or with Versam and since the beginning of the 21st century also with the Safiental parishes and has formed a joint parish with these last-named villages since January 1, 2013 of the Colloquium I Ob dem Wald .
