Marcel Ponseele (* 1957 in Kortrijk ) is a Belgian oboist and instrument maker specializing in historical performance practice .

Marcel Ponseele graduated from the Bruges City Conservatory in 1977 before continuing his studies at the Royal Conservatories in Ghent and Brussels , where he specialized in playing the Baroque oboe . In 1981 he won the “Musica Antiqua Competition” at the Festival van Vlaanderen in Bruges.

Ponseele is primarily active as a soloist in cantatas and oratorios by the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra , the “ La Petite Bande ” under Sigiswald Kuijken , the “ La Chapelle Royale ”; He was a founding member of the “Orchester des Champs-Élysées” under Philippe Herreweghe , and among others he also works for the ensembles led by John Eliot Gardiner and Masaaki Suzuki . He himself leads the wind ensemble "Harmonie des Champs-Elysées"

In 1988 he founded the baroque ensemble Il Gardellino with Jan De Winne and Shalev Ad-El , with which he recorded numerous concerts and chamber music from the 18th century. Ponseele taught baroque oboe at the Paris Conservatory for a long period of time and is now passing on his skills in master classes. More than 30 solo recordings and countless concerts around the world with the ensembles mentioned above made him internationally known.

Together with his brother Francis Ponseele, Marcel Ponseele runs a factory near Damme that produces historical oboes and the other variants of the instrument belonging to the oboe family, which have an international reputation among soloists, as well as the occasional baroque bassoons .
