Marcgraviastrum are a genus of plants fromthe Marcgraviaceae family with fifteen species .

description

Marcgraviastrum are overgrown shrubs or lianas that often grow epiphytic , their leaves are sessile or stalked.

The inflorescences form umbel-shaped collapsed bunches of 5 to 14 (rarely 2 to 22) flowers , which stand on upright peduncles. Opposite them are sessile, seldom-stalked, hanging, sack-shaped to tubular nectaries that attach to the lower part of the flower stalk.

The flowers are five-fold, the petals are ungrown or differently grown. There are twelve to numerous stamens , the stamens are almost completely ungrown, only those of the outer circle are fused with the crown at the base. The ovary is incomplete five to neunkammerig with numerous ovules per chamber.

distribution

The genus is New World , its range extends from Nicaragua over the Andes to Peru and Suriname and extends to eastern Brazil .
