(1977) by Roberto Faenza . His first feature film, Maledetti, vi amerò , was shown at the Cannes International Film Festival and won the Golden Leopard at the Locarno International Film Festival .

In 1981 he directed La caduta degli angeli ribelli , which premiered at the Venice Biennale . In 1984 he edited the story of Carlos Castaneda in two sequels for television. Three years later he directed Appuntamento a Liverpool . The film is about the Heysel disaster on May 29, 1985.

In 1991 he worked on the four-part co-production La domenica specialmente and contributed La neve sul fuoco , inspired by the stories of Tonino Guerra . In 1995 Giordana focused on recent Italian history with the film Pasolini, un delitto italiano about the fatal attack on Pier Paolo Pasolini . In 2003 he realized The Best Years for television , which covers Italian history from the 1960s to the present day. The extensive work with a total length of six hours was produced by Rai, but the broadcaster decided against broadcasting it on television because of the length. However, it won a prize in the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Festival and came as a two-parter in some cinemas in Italy. The reaction from the cinema audience was so good that it was later broadcast on television as a four-part series.

In 2005 Giordana took part in the Cannes competition with Quando sei nato non puoi più nasconderti , a film about the situation of illegal immigrants in southern Italy .

In 2008 Sanguepazzo (Eng. "Crazy blood") appeared. The film with Monica Bellucci , Luca Zingaretti and Alessio Boni takes place in the time of the totalitarian republic of Salò and is based on a true story.
