Antonio "Tonino" Guerra (born March 16, 1920 in Santarcangelo di Romagna ; † March 21, 2012 ibid) was an Italian poet and screenwriter .

Life

Tonino Guerra wrote his early poems in the Romagna dialect while imprisoned as an Italian military internee in a forced labor camp in Troisdorf . He had a lifelong friendship with Federico Fellini , which resulted in the film Amarcord , and with Michelangelo Antonioni . Guerra lived until the end as an honorary citizen in Pennabilli . He is the father of the film music composer Andrea Guerra, born in 1961 (including music for Hotel Rwanda ).

In 1983 Tonino Guerra directed the first and only time, the film Tempo di viaggio was made .

Awards (selection)

Tonino Guerra received three Oscar nominations for the screenplays of Casanova '70 (1965), Blow Up (1966) and Amarcord (1973) . In 1984 he was awarded for Best Screenplay at the Cannes International Film Festival (for The Trip to Kythera ). In 2002 he received the European Film Award for Lifetime Achievement. He was able to win a David di Donatello three times in his career, and six times he received the Nastro d'Argento for Best Screenplay . In 2012 he became an honorary citizen of Ravenna .
