action

In order to control and economically exploit human aggression, governments and corporations in the 21st century have developed a worldwide game show. “The great hunt” promises wealth and honor to the winner. Players randomly selected by a computer become hunters and victims alternately. The hunters pursue their victims around the world to kill them and advance to the next round. The victims, in turn, are allowed to kill the hunters. The goal is to survive ten rounds - five as a hunter, five as a victim. Caroline Meredith has just survived her ninth round: she killed her hunter as a victim in a New York masochist club. The victim in her tenth round, whose killing is supposed to bring her prosperity and fame, is Marcello Poiletti. Poiletti survived six laps himself; He has just killed a victim as a hunter. He takes part in the game in order to be able to pay for the expensive separation from his wife Lidia.

Marcello awaits the assassin, who is unknown to him, in Rome. Caroline hooks up with a television crew to broadcast her tenth murder, which is to be broadcast as part of a commercial. She poses as a reporter who wants to write about the sexual interests of European men and arranges a meeting with Marcello at the Temple of Venus . Marcello is skeptical and suspects that Caroline is the assassin. He plans her death: he wants a crocodile to eat her. A television team informed by him should record this.

Caroline feels safe and follows Marcello to the beach. She can convince him of her pretended intentions. He begins to be fascinated by her. On the beach, Caroline drugs him and takes him back to the temple the next morning. She shoots him in front of the camera. But Marcello survived because he slipped his gun under her, which is loaded with blank cartridges. He wants revenge with another weapon, but Caroline is protected with a bulletproof vest. Their experiences brought the two together. You mistakenly get on a special airplane in which you can get married and are forced to get married at gunpoint. After the ceremony, the pilot fires the gun, but it remains unclear who of the two newlyweds is now the "tenth victim".

criticism

The lexicon of international films describes the film as an “absurd science fiction comedy that vacillates between satire and action cinema. Socially critical approaches take a back seat in favor of spectacular tension effects. "

The film magazine Cinema sees the film as a "mix of" Gladiator "and" Rollerball "with 60s sex westerns."

The Protestant film observer also discovered a couple of positive aspects in the film: “The strip, produced with a certain amount of intelligence and imagination, depicts a state of affairs in which Christianity is turned into its opposite, as the subject of an hour and a half conversation. Therefore only possible with reservations. "

At Rotten Tomatoes , the film is rated 86% based on 7 reviews, with an average rating of 7.3 / 10.
