MTW CC 1600 ships from the MTW shipyard are container ships with three cranes . In total, the series of this ship type built between 1993 and 1998 by the Wismar shipyard comprised 15 units.

history

After the re-establishment of Mathias-Thesen-Werft Wismar GmbH on June 1, 1990 as part of Deutsche Maschinen- und Schiffbau AG (DMS) and the subsequent renaming to MTW Schiffswerft GmbH, it developed the CC 1600 design with a load-bearing capacity of at the beginning of the 1990s about 22,000 tons, which was manufactured in three variants until 1998. The shipyard then concentrated on building the larger CC 2500 ship.

The CC 1600 is a multi-purpose container ship with eight hatches, cell guides and three 40 t cranes from the manufacturer NMF . Three of the four box-shaped cargo holds have no substructure or protruding components and are closed with pontoon hatch covers that can accommodate a deck load of 60/90 tons per TEU / FEU space. As a multi-purpose ship, the CC 1600 design is set up not only for the transport of around 1600 TEU containers but also for the transport of bulk cargo or smaller project cargoes.

The first two ships went to the shipping company Hans Peterson from Hörsten, another three ships went to the shipping company Thomas Schulte from Hamburg, two went to FA Vinnen from Bremen and one to Klaus tom Wörden from Oldendorf. The main buyer of the ships, however, was the Leeraner shipping company Hermann Buss, which ordered six ships. The construction price of the ships was significantly lower than that of former western competitors due to the shipyard's attractive financing offers.

The machinery consists of a reversible Sulzer - two-stroke - diesel engine of the type 7RTA62U from Dieselmotorenwerk Rostock with 15,540 kW power , which acts directly on a fixed-pitch propeller. The engines were manufactured under license by the Polish manufacturer Cegielski from Poznań. A shaft generator with 1440 kW output as well as three MaK 6M20 auxiliary diesels with 880 kW each and an emergency diesel are available for the power supply. The docking and casting off maneuvers are supported by a bow thruster with an output of 800 kW.

During the construction period, the ship design was further developed in a number of points. For example, later units on the side of the deckhouse have conspicuous diagonal stiffeners and a closed forecastle (from construction number 295).

The Buss shipping company sold all of its seven units of the type in 2012, with only one going to another shipping company and the remaining six being scrapped.
