Marco Vecellio

Marco Vecellio (* 1545 in Pieve di Cadore , † 1611 in Venice ) was an Italian painter of the Renaissance .

Life

Vecelli was the son of a Toma Tito. He moved to Venice, where he was trained by his uncle, the painter Tiziano Vecellio . He later accompanied him on his trips to Rome and Germany. He was Titian's favorite student and came closer to his style than any other family member. Vecellio died at the age of 66 and was buried in Santa Marina.

Some notable paintings by him have been preserved in the Venetian Doge's Palace . Among them there is also a mythology in the Great Council Hall and the image of Doge Leonardo Donato in front of the Mother of God with the Christ Child , as well as the meeting of Charles V with Pope Clement VII , 1529 . He also painted for churches in Venice, Trevigi and Friuli . He also created some important works for the Church of San Zanipolo in Venice. There is an Annunciation in San Giacomo di Rialto in Venice . There are also works by him in the Palazzo Comunale of Titian's hometown Pieve di Cadore.

He was the father of the painter Tizianello, named after his uncle (around 1570 – around 1650).
