Life

Marcus Sendlinger was born in Königstein im Taunus and grew up in Hesse . From 1992 to 1997 he studied painting , drawing and printmaking at the HfG Offenbach / M. Art college . Furthermore, in 1992 he completed a guest study at the State University of Fine Arts, Saar, Saarbrücken. From 2009 to 2010 he was an artistic assistant and lecturer at the Institute for Architecture, Art Department , TU Berlin . In 2014 he led block seminars on painting (master classes) at the HFG Offenbach / M. and in 2016 at the Herron School of Art and Design , Indiana State University, Indianapolis , USA .

In addition to his own artistic work, Marcus Sendlinger has been committed to cross-border social and institutional dialogue from the start. For this purpose, among other things, he conceived the traveling exhibition and group show ALPTRAUM, which dealt with fear and anxiety. And with his art project THE FARM & DISTILLERY (formerly RAE (Real Art Estate) Farm & Distillery ) he is driving the currently urgent artistic, social and cultural dialogue and promoting international exchange (see also curated projects ).

Marcus Sendlinger has lived in Berlin since 1997 and has been working at THE FARM & DISTILLERY, Lentzke at Fehrbellin in Brandenburg since 2015 .

Sendlinger's artistic work deals with urban life, its abysses and their beauty. He collages , mixes and abstracts found objects and recontextualises civilizational phenomena. With his work he moves between urban trauma and oscillating worlds. They document the vibrating pulse of the information age as well as the nervous restlessness of the people in the big cities. (Friederike Nymphius, curator, Berlin, 2009).

This documentation can be read not only in Sendlinger's large formats, travel collages or sculptures, but also in his music and vehicle projects, which are a kind of inventory of the immediate surroundings.

nightmare

The traveling exhibition initiated by the artist Marcus Sendlinger in 2010 reflects artistic, social and cultural circumstances that deal with fear and fears. The source of inspiration and namesake of the touring exhibition ALPTRAUM were the paintings by the Swiss artist Johann Heinrich Füssli (1741 Zurich - 1825 London); in particular the painting “Der Nachtmahr” (1782). One of the most important works of black romanticism, this work deals with our frightening dreams, visions and personal demons. In the group show initiated by Sendlinger, this discussion finds its contemporary continuation. With over 280 shown artists from over 21 countries and at over 17 exhibition locations, the artist-curated group show connects artists and institutions from all over the world - and becomes a never-ending nightmare.
